today's blog post is about another one of my personal favorites. i'm from utah, and so was this guy! and he's fascinating. and soon i'll tell you why.
i don't really see a need for any more of an intro, so let's get into it.
arthur gary bishop!
arthur gary bishop was born on september 29, 1952 in hinckley, utah. he was born into a mormon family and he was raised as a devout mormon. he was an eagle scout and an honors student as a child and served as a missionary for the mormon church and graduated with honors from stevens henager college as an adult.
in 1978, bishop was convicted of embezzlement and sentenced to five years prison time. afterward, he went by "roger downs" and lived in salt lake. he participated in the big brother program, which is basically a program where volunteers help disadvantaged kids by spending time with them.
bishop's first victim was a child named alonzo daniels. he was four years old and a neighbor of "roger downs". while bishop was questioned by the police, it was all routine and they had no leads and no body.
the second, and possibly most well-known victim was kim peterson, who was eleven years old and had left his home to sell skates. he never returned.
third was four-year-old danny davis, who disappeared on october 20, 1981, in a busy supermarket where he was with his grandfather. again, bishop was questioned by police but wasn't suspected.
next was troy ward, who was abducted on his sixth birthday.
and finally, graeme cunningham on july 14, 1983, disappeared from his home two days before he was supposed to go on a camping trip with "roger downs". police finally connected all the dots and had bishop put in custody where he quickly confessed and also said, "i'm glad they caught me. because i would do it again." bishop also confessed to molesting several other boys whose lives he had spared.
police searched his apartment to find a gun and a bloody hammer as well as photographs of naked boys.
bishop was sentenced to die by lethal injection on june 9, 1988.
and there we go! arthur gary bishop is an interesting one because he appeared to be the stereotypical good and righteous boy, but in the end, he murdered five boys and molested countless others. so pretty wild if i do say so myself.
but i think that's all i have to say about that! stay spooky my folks!
